St. James’ Parish Church, Center of the Queen of Peace
Get to know the parish of St. James. Today it is the center of sacramental and prayer life, not only for parishioners, but also for pilgrims. The title of patron of the parish reflects the providence of God’s finger, because St. James is the patron of pilgrims. An ordinary village parish has turned into a great pilgrimage site.
The exterior altar built in 1989, and the surrounding prayer area are a place of gathering in the summer time and for big feasts, when numerous thousands of pilgrims gather in Medjugorje, where the Church’s evening program is celebrated (Rosary, Holy Mass, Adoration, Healing Prayer, Veneration of the Cross). Visit the bronze statue of the Risen Christ dripping with liquid, the grave of Fr. Slavko Barbaric, a local Franciscan who died with a reputation for holiness, the station of luminous mysteries….
Apparition Hill is the place the visionaries, in that time children, claimed to have first seen Our Lady. Since then, pilgrims gather there to pray the rosary. By day and by night, groups can be seen making their way to the place of the first apparition. While climbing, the group is invited to pray the rosary, stopping at each station of the Rosary. On the hill, where the statue of Our Lady is located, you will enjoy private time in prayer.
For you, as for all of us, a meeting with Apparition Hill is a meeting with Mary. That is why it is very important to ask Lord with all your heart and soul to open your spiritual sight and hearing so that you may be able to listen what She is saying and experience Her presence.
Also, at the base of this hill is a Blue Cross, where Our Lady also appeared in the early days of the apparitions. Visionary Ivan, on June 27th 1982, with a group of people was climbing when unexpectedly Our Lady appeared to him and warned him that they shouldn’t continue to climb because the police were waiting for them in ambush. It is a frequented place of prayer which is easier to climb.
Mt. Krizevac or Cross Mountain is where in 1934, the villagers built a 28’ (8.5m) high cross on the top of the hill to commemorate the 1900th years Jesus’ passion and death on the cross. The words inscribed on the Cross are: “TO JESUS CHRIST, THE REDEEMER OF THE HUMAN RACE, AS A SIGN OF OUR FAITH, LOVE AND HOPE, IN MEMORY OF THE 1900TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PASSION OF JESUS”. Since then, a mass has been celebrated at its base on the first Sunday after September 8, in honor of the Triumph of the Cross.
While climbing, the group is invited to encounter Jesus in His suffering and discover His love in prayer at the Stations of the Cross. Discover the special story related to the cross erected on the top. Mt. Krizevac doesn’t draw the numerous pilgrims because of its natural beauty or because of the large Cross, but because the way to peace is unavoidably through the Cross. Our salvation is in the cross.

Šurmanci, Church of Divine Mercy, where the relics of S. Faustina and St. John Paul II are located. Celebrate Holy Mass with your group.
Holy Mass for the group in Tihaljina, where there is a beautiful statue of Our Lady that often represents Our Lady of Medjugorje.
Excursion with guide to the Sanctuary of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Široki Brijeg. The oldest shrine dedicated to Our Lady in Hercegovina, where the Partisans killed the Franciscans in 1945. in ODIUM FIDEI. Guided visit to the shrine. Visiting Siroki Brijeg you will understand better our history. Holy Mass for the group to be celebrated by the group’s priest.
Visit the Cenacolo community and the Mother’s Village. There are many communities in Medjugorje, these two are highly recommended by Church. The Cenacolo Community is a place where those who have struggled with addiction are healed through prayer and work. An opportunity to listen to their testimony. The Mother’s Village was founded by Fr. Slavko Barbaric, and it is an orphanage.
Attend daily Evening prayer program in parish st. James.
Evening prayer program is highlight of Pilgrimage to Medjugorje. Morning programs can be different and are adapted to the needs of the group, celebrating Holy Mass in their own language, however, everyone is invited to gather together for the evening program. Our Lady has called us to prepare ourselves for the celebration of the Holy Mass. The celebration of the sacred mysteries is at the center of all events.
Mary, Mother of Our Lord and Our Mother, is present in these celebrations as the caring mother. Time for Confession, Rosary, Holy Mass, Adoration and Veneration of the Cross…
